I'm contemplating my return to the Fujifilm universe and wonder how the AF Face Detection and Eye AF of the X-T5 compare to those of the A7 III, specifically for close-up portraits with an emphasis on the eyes (often with very shallow DOF, not studio-like sharpness).
Any input from members who have experienced both and have a basis of comparison would be greatly appreciated!
I haven't used the A7iii in a while, but I think they're comparable. Fuji will probably have better subject recognition, and the A7 will be better for faster motion. It will also depend what lenses you're planning on using.

Mainly XF90mm
Sometimes XF56mm (1st gen) and XF35mm f/2
I've used them both and don't think there is a lot of difference between the two. The X-T5 is pretty good at naling eye focus in portrait situations. It is probably more important to learn how to use either AF system than worry about the differences between them.
I agree with the guys above. The X-T5 does a decent job with portrait eye-AF. Kids moving around, mmv. Also, the older 56 does a little better with the X-trans 5 bodies than before. But, I did sell mine and picked up a Viltrox 56 1.2. Better yet.
