p.2 #2 · Favorite M mount lens for Architectural work ... ???
This is with the ZEISS C Biogon T* 21mm f/4.5 ZM. I traded this lens in while at MAP camera in Tokyo for a Leica 75mm APO and purchased a Leica 21mm SEM when I returned to the U.S. The SEM is a nicer looking lens, but the ZM doesn’t really give anything up vs the Leica. This is a high contrast/micro-contrast lens with very low distortion.

I too have been really impressed by the ZM 21/4.5. I’m pretty sure that I recall seeing an assertion that it has the lowest distortion of any 21mm lens (don’t remember where, sorry). At any rate, I’m confident that it’s true to say that it’s ideal for architectural work. Moreover, it appears to work fine on the M11 (no colour smearing), unlike on earlier digital Ms (not sure about the M10R).

Here are a couple of snaps. Nothing special, just small illustrations of why I like the ZM 4.5/21. The first has highlights reduced and shadows boosted (due to the light behind the spire) but nothing else changed, the second is unedited (other than whatever LR does by default). The lens is coded as the 16mm part of the Tri-Elmar (with the exif being updated to show the actual lens).
Edit to add: the first one was converted to B&W, of course (using LR’s B&W button).
