Hi all,
Has anyone found a good way to maintain the shiny brass finish on a LLL lens ? I know naturally it will patina over time, but I kinda like the shiny look. Thoughts ? Wish I could just seal it but not a likely option...
Thanks.
You have few options, keep it on the shelf, or use it everyday by using your finger grease to coat it, or periodically polish it.
The bare brass is usually coated with polymeric resins, when it wear out, bare brass will be oxidized.
When I first got my bare brass 35 8E - first batch that were sold at $500 - it came from the factory w greasy finger prints corroded into the finish!
I carefully used brass cleaner to polish it off - became super shiny blingy! - but since then allowed it to patina gracefully. i occasionally wipe it down after use so there are no finger print etch marks happening but the layer of patina seems to now protect against that.

These are Kevin’s fingerprints—he was the last person to touch the lens before it was delivered to you. You might consider adding your own fingerprints as a unique proof of ownership
For bare brass lenses, developing a patina is generally considered desirable.
