p.1 #1 · Leica M11-D Glossy Black Paint Set - 100 YEARS OF LEICA
Leica made this set in hilariously small numbers, and every copy is already spoken for by people who are, let's just say, a lot closer to the Leica inner circle than the rest of us. So if you're a collector, enjoy the video… but treat it like a museum visit, not a shopping opportunity.
The set includes a Leica M11-D in glossy black paint, a silver 50mm f/1.4 Summilux ASPH. (close-focus), and the silver 50mm f/3.5 collapsible.

I'm not interested in the lenses or the full set, but I would definitely buy the Leica M11-D in glossy black paint. Hopefully Leica makes it available for purchase like they did with the regular M11.

Why on Earth did they include the 50mm f/3.5 collapsible... in fact for the money they are asking, they should have made the set with a 50mm Apo and the 28mm f/5.6 if they wanted to harken back to the past.... In fact, if they wanted the entire kit to have a "retro" feel, it could be the 50mm f/3.5 and 28mm f/5.6.
With the exception of the Safari sets that actually get used, I'll never understand any of these collector kits.

It's an interesting choice for sure, although many love this specific model more than the Elmar. perhaps it will be a future reissue for the rest of us?

Did any FM member end up getting this set? I believe it sold for around $45-50K, and from what I know, only 100 were made.
I'm not really into collectibles, I even take my M10-R BP on landscape trips, but would really enjoy a M11-D BP.

I personally prefer the M11-D to the P I have, and if I'd seen a minty used D at the price I got my P I would have leapt on it.
I was actually very interested in this limited edition D model but the pricing is outrageous and I vastly prefer the matte black aluminum finish on the regular D and P models.
If the body was offered alone with the matte black aluminum finish and silver hardware (kind of like the D-Lux 8) and similarly bumped in price by a few hundred dollars like the D-Lux 8, I would have been all over that.

Superficial things, but in terms of feel and look, I much prefer the brass, black-painted Leica M11-D. I'm actually glad Leica didn’t offer it separately from the special edition, because I would probably end up buying it without needing it.
I understand the aluminum top makes it lighter, but there's just something about the brass top on a Leica M that I enjoy more when shooting. It's purely a personal preference, and over time, that patina it develops just looks gorgeous to me.

I certainly won't begrudge you any of that - except the black paint brassing thing because I honestly never cared for that and especially on a digital camera which you know will not last forever. I have a brass Leica MP with the silver chrome finish and it certainly has a feeling of solidity to it owing to the all-brass construction.
Good thing they make different models for those of us with differing tastes
