It won’t, unfortunately. I’m looking for a level of bokeh that an 85/1.8 just can’t deliver. I’d be going 1.2 if I could deal with the cost and weight!

What about a minty used Sigma 85/1.4 ART in Sony E-mount with an adapter?
Otherwise the new Viltrox PRO might be your best choice, but it is big, heavy and no one knows anything about the longterm reliability or value retention. I tried it out during a photoshow in Paris, it certainly seems to perform but keep in mind that the AF motors keep clonking around inside when the power isn't connected, sort of irritating in my book.
For full body group portraits you might want wider than 85 with a little more DOF. Consider the Sigma 50/1.4 Art F-mount - I've gotten good results with mine FTZ adapted on a Z5.
I also like my 105E but it can fit only half body group shots comfortably unless you have a ton of room to back up into.
