I had been looking for a trio plan for a while, but was unwilling to pay inflated prices for a 50 year old lens. When TTArtisans released this lens it seemed like a no-brainer. It's not quite a full reproduction like LLL would do, but the optical formula is the same as the original and performs quite similarly. My understanding is that the glass and coatings are where we see differences, but I wouldn't be able to tell the difference in a blind comparison.
If I were to buy it again, I would probably skip the M to E smart adapter. It only codes for Leica lenses and throws off your exif data. Most times I use the Voigtlander adapter.

I had an old Trioplan for several years, having managed to find one for a price that was for sure too high for what it was but not so high that I felt like an idiot. I sold it eventually, unable to justify the continued expense for its limited use…but I have considered picking up one of these newer versions. Nice to see how well they recapitulate the output of the original.
I need another eccentric lens like I need a new hole in my head, though…
