Messaging Fred Miranda is the way to go. Sounds like you already did this. He's often away from the forum, for days or so, but he should get back to you. Also, nothing wrong with sending a second PM, call it a reminder, if the wait gets too long. In the meanwhile, I'd check my PayPal account to see if I can turn off the auto-payments (you should be able to).

There is a "different route" via PP.
If PayPal charged you twice, first check your Activity for pending authorizations that might drop off or contact the recipient; if it's a real duplicate charge, report it as a "Billing Error" in PayPal's Resolution Center to dispute it with the seller or escalate it to a claim, acting quickly within 180 days for the best chance of resolution.
