Are lenses made to take impact? Is it acceptable for a Canon retailer to ship in a FedEx Pak?
I ordered a new RF-S lens from procam.com in Michigan. While I haven't seen the package, the Express tracking information implies they shipped it in a plastic or Tyvek bag. Perhaps using cardboard would increase their rates for two-day service.
This would be the first time I've seen using a bag for lens shipping, so I'm wondering if I should prepare to refuse delivery.

A Fedex Pak is a bubble-padded type envelope. If the lens is in the OEM packaging inside that pouch and lightweight it is probably fine for normal shocks, but not crushes.

I would receive and take a careful look at it. The TDP tests indicate that lens has mediocre IQ, so perhaps it is not so easy to identify any out of the usual optical defects.
Many of the relatively pricey lens I received in corrugated boxes have no effective 6-sided protection, just pillows to fill the space and no problems yet. In the old days we would buy gear in store with no idea if the primary package had been passed around like a football or what.
