Anyone else having issues w Lomo 120 film fat rolling (loose rolling) on them?
I’ve been noticing this in me ‘Olgas mate, but chalked that down to the charm of ‘it’s an ‘Olga, innit?’.
So I’ve given up using Lomo 120 in them. But I just shot a roll of Lomo Metropolis 120 in my Brooks Veriwide 100. And it too fat rolled. I have never had that issue before in the Veriwide (nor in the Holgas) so it seems something is up with the film.
I have a feeling it is down to the thickness and/or the slipperiness of the backing paper.
I've had a lomo roll or two fat roll but I've fat rolled film from every manufacturer at some point so I don't think it's strictly lomo's fault as much as user error on my part. I've gotten better at remembering to load 120 film with maximum tension possible at the start and I haven't had any fat rolls in a while.
I've read online about slight differences in the diameter of the spool ends between manufacturers possibly being to blame but I'm not sure if that's actually true. Maybe some combination of backing paper/film thickness and spool diameter play a role in addition to slipperiness?
If I remember correctly "fat" rolls of Lomo 120 happened to me when I was using a receiving spool that previously came with a Lomo 120 roll on it. Try to always use a receiving spool from a roll that did not come from Lomo.
Even with "fat" rolls I did not have any light leaks on my film. As a rule I always extract the finished roll in dim light and either wrap into aluminum foil or put into a little light proof bag right away.
