p.1 #1 · Any advantages or reasons to keep a D610 after buying a Z5?

I just bought a Z5 as my first mirrorless camera.

I have a D800 which I am keeping, but I also have a D610 which I am debating whether to keep.

The D610 has a built-in flash which is something the Z5 lacks. Any other advantages of the D610 I'm not realizing?

Do you have any screw-drive AF lenses? That's the main reason I would need a DSLR.

It's lighter than the D800, and it has a slightly different output. That's the main reason why I still use my D600 on occasion. It's just lighter than the rest of my FX DSLR's, and I do like the look of the files for some things. But if it's not a big difference from the D800 for you, then you probably won't regret turning it into a Z lens of some sort.

I don't think I'd keep the D600. The D800 is nice to have for all the old F-mount lenses, but I think your Z5 will become your main carry around lens.

In the presence of a D800, none. If you are a little bit unsure now, the Z5 will soon convince you that the best thing to do is to sell it. In practice, the lack of flash in the Z is a non-issue.

The value of these cameras on the second-hand market is quite low, and it is not worth selling them off unless you are in urgent need of money. I still own three film Nikon bodies for this reason.

Thanks for all the responses so far. I actually only have 2 screw lenses (24mm & 50mm) and I could do without them. The D800 is my high res or tripod type camera while the D610 served as my walkaround. I do see the Z5 replacing the D610 and I will likely sell it off.

I still have a D800E with about 59K actuations. I keep it because it's worth almost nothing used, and because I might shoot a total solar eclipse where it would be good not to have the partial sun blasting the sensor except at the moment of exposure.

At this point in time you are still in the "honeymoon" with the Z5. Give it some time.

It has Live View and so a good candidate for conversion to an IR camera.

I had a D750 and a D500 when I bought my first Z, the Z6II. After two weeks I realized I hadn't used the D750 at all. And, when I did it felt foreign to me. I boxed up the D750 and a bunch of lenses and traded for a couple of Z lenses. I kept the D500 for my big lenses for awhile. But, ended up selling it the next year. Personally, I don't miss DSLRs at all. Some do though. Could be you are one. Only you can decide that.

I recently picked up a D850 to use with my F-mount lenses and to have a native AF for the screw drive lenses I still have. I’ve been adding some F mount lenses I could not afford back in the day. My Z6III and Z8 will still be primary cameras.

I had previously sold my D750 / D500 to go full Z on the camera side. Using the D850 again made me realize how spoiled I have become with using an EVF. Especially the brighter view it offers in dim light.

The D610 and Z5 are basically the same camera. You could keep it as a backup while you still have F mount lenses. The Z5 will do everything but better even with F lenses where things like tuning focus are no longer necessary.
