p.1 #1 · 22 hours at Bryce Canyon

We just returned from a month long western trip. 16 days on the road and 14 days visiting my daughter's family in Los Angeles. The primary purpose of the trip was to get to Los Angeles but I tried to plan some interesting layovers along the way. One of the stops was Bryce Canyon Lodge at Sunset Point which was wonderful. The plan was to get in one sunset, try my hand at some astro photography which I've never done, and then one sunrise. We arrived around three PM but the sunset never quite materialized. So I went back to the rim trail at night and had some limited success. I got up the next morning well before sunrise but when I stepped out the door it was pouring rain. I went back to bed for about 5 minutes but then the what ifs started. What if the rain stops ? What if the clouds break and the sun bursts through ? So I dressed back up and went out in the rain. It eventually stopped raining but the sun never came through and then it fogged over completely so I figured that was it. Went back to the room to pack up for check out but instead of leaving the park for a proper breakfast I talked my wife into grabbing something at the small cafe in the park. As we sat there with just the two employees and one other couple it started to snow. We sat there a while to let the snow build up and then I went back out to Sunrise Point and then Bryce Point. I can't even describe this magical experience with only four or five other people around. At Sunset Point it was still snowing and foggy but for about five minutes at Bryce Point the sun broke through and lit up the rocks before everything fogged over once again.
Thanks for taking a look !
Gary

I think its great that you didn't give up! Sleep and a warm bed can be highly overrated when there are places like Bryce to enjoy. Thanks for sharing!

There are a lot of potential wall hangers in this set, Gary.

These are outstanding! The ones with the fog and snow give such a moody feeling.

Tell me about it My wife is so sick of me complaining over the years about how things never line up for me. That's one of the reasons I gave up on Landscape photography. I really envy the members here who are consistently producing great images. I was only dreaming about the possibility of getting snow, never thought it would actually happen. And to think I almost missed it. We nearly left the park to get breakfast because everything was shut down except for one small cafe with very limited options. Thankfully my wife gave in to my suggestion to wait just a little bit longer
Appreciate your comments John.

What a great trip, and you have quite the selection of shots to prove it. Congrats Gary, it was worth the wait for the stars to align for you. The snow shots are the icing on the cake. Nice work.
