I don't shoot much video, but was curious about this. I hooked up a Viltrox 6-inch 4K monitor to see what resolution it reported in different modes. I could get 2160p/30 showing on the monitor in ProRes 10-bit, but nothing at all for 12-bit or N-RAW. I'm probably doing it wrong.

I have a Blackmagic Video Assist 12G 7" monitor/recorder that I use quite a lot with the GH7.
I just tried using it with the Z8 and the HDMI coming out of the Z8 is not quite what the user manual says.
Example:
The manual (page 294 in mine) says for
8K N-Raw it should output 4K, but I'm getting 1080p
4K N-Raw it should output 4K but again I'm getting 1080p
Lots off others just like this, including the ProRes modes.
H.265 8K is outputting 1080p, as it 4L, but change to UHD (3840x2160) and it's outputting UH correctly.
I've tried changing from Auto to set specific 4K modes but no luck. All 4K modes work from the GH7 no problem.
Both are on the latest firmware. Any ideas?
Do you have a different external monitor that is showing different resolutions? ...Show more →
I have the same monitor. Unlike your GH7, the Z8 is not a supported camera on that monitor. My Z6 is supported (as is Z7, Z6ii, Z7ii) and it outputs all the 4k resolutions including Braw over HDMI. I only ever use the BMVA7/12g as a non-recording monitor on my Z9.

You are right, this isn't a supported body. Hmmm.... Not sure why the HDMi negotiations would fail, but I guess that's what they are doing.
Oh well. I guess I'm stuck with monitoring at 1080p and external (backup) recording is not going to be practical.
