Terrific series of getting his meal down the hatch! I like how the inner eyelid is closing to protect the eye as it wrangles its meal.

*HER* breakfast. The rufous band across the lower chest and on the sides.indicates that this is a female. The male Belted Kingfisher is all white in those areas.

Nice shots. I have taken photos of them doing that with a catch but have never been able to get close enough to get any as good as these.

Yes, a female and they whack the fish to stun it. They don't want the fish flapping about as they try to position the fish so they can swallow it head first.
