Woot woot. My wish came true. Custom AF areas on Sony a7 IV (like Lumix has offered for years). Golden ratio grid lines are nice. Too bad custom grid lines still require a paid license.

Finally, an update with truly useful new features. I find the new AF frame lines and frame sizes just as welcome as the display indicators, which now finally rotate to portrait mode. Updates like this should come more often.

I think the a1 and the a7IV were released in the same year, 2021. Seems strange that these functions are not available on a camera that cost considerably more.

Typical Sony. The a1 has been "superseded" with a mark II so it likely won't get any more meaningful updates. The a7 IV is still the latest of it's line so Sony is still adding features. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the last major version update for the a7 IV as the V seems to be looming.
