I was trying to determine if I should keep the 14gm or switch out for a 16-35gm2..... I have the 35 1.4 and I also have the 20-70.
For this trip i committed to the A1 v1 and the A7Cv2 The 14, a cv 35 3.5, the 35 and the 70-200 plus I had the 2x if needed.
I actually had the 14 on the most. The tight streets and lighting just made it easy. Yes I could have probably had the 20-70 f4 but the 14 just was "easy" The 70-200 was next most used and then the 35gm... I did a couple of nights with just the 7Cii and the cv 35 because it was so small and that was nice to wander with and got good starsburst.
I have a ton of gas with the BF ads and the viltrox and samyang lenses but I think I am going to stick with what I have for a change. That and then the one bad thing about the 14.... i dumped it in my bag quick forgetting i had a small tripod in there and scratched the front element..... Off to Prosony it goes about 400 bucks for new front element.
I've always wanted to go to Tokyo, and had already thought about how I'd probably be fine with the A7cR & 14GM for most of it. Walking the streets at night with a fast wide lens seems like a great combo for there.
I知 going to Japan in March April 2026 for Sakura Cherry Blossom season and I知 working on a small light kit that will fit in a 7L Wotancraft bag along with my 2L older Pacsafe waist bag. It seems you work with the 14mm very well. Too wide for me in general. I was thinking of going a7CII with Viltrox 85mm F2 evo and a Fujifilm X 100VI for a 35mm equivalent as a basic setup. Though I値l probably bring a few other lenses though not carrying them all the time.

85 and 35 will cover you well. At lease one wider lens might be nice though.
I was in Japan 40+ years ago and the photo opportunities are endless. I mostly enjoyed the "old" but it's also a very modern place, too. This is a nice mix and it looks that a 14mm did well in your hands.
I also recently added the 14/4 and haven't really had a good opportunity to get out and use it much.
