I'm wondering why Voigt lenses are sometimes out of stock for a while. I wanted to buy the Voigtlander 28mm f/2 APO-Lanthar but it is not even on their website.
Ok, this is a new lens.
But I'm also considering the Voigtlander VM 35mm f/2 Ultron II and it is nowhere to be found except in Japan AFAIK.
Any idea why? And how long such shortages may last?
As you surmised the 28 APO-Lanthar is difficult to find because it is new and in high demand. I believe it is back ordered from most retailers...so it will be a while before stock catches up.
The 35 f/2 Ultron was recently discontinued. My guess is retailers/distributors might've known this was coming and were able to sell down their stock.
Sorry, that's probably not the news you were looking for.

Cosina usually nails production planning. They know their market and they match supply with demand pretty well. The 28mm f/2 APO-Lanthar was the exception. They did not expect demand to explode the way it did, especially once people realized how absurdly good this lens is. In terms of performance, correction, and overall rendering, it is the best 28mm M-mount lens ever made. Once photographers saw the results, everyone wanted one at the same time.
The first two batches vanished instantly and preorders have kept climbing. As Jim mentioned, the other lens you brought up is already discontinued. Once the remaining stock is gone, that is it, no more new copies out there.
I have dealt with Cameraquest a few times and always had great service. His used gear is always in excellent condition as well, if you care to go that route.

Thanks. I read the news here but forgot about it.
Strangely enough, almost all the retailers display "more stock coming soon".

Indeed and even if I order sometimes from the US (B&H mainly) or even sometimes from the Japan, I try to avoid it for obvious tax reasons.
