Birding in Mindo Ecuador

p.1 #1 · Birding in Mindo Ecuador

1: Hopped a flight out of my home town to Quito 400 bucks one way.
2: Rented a place in Mindo Colombia for a month.
3: Only went to two birding locations, cost was 58 dollars for both. Cost was mostly for hiring a driver,
4: Mostly with my camera on my morning walks for exercise.
5: So far my total cost for a month here is about 1,088. That is the total excluding air fare.

You will have to excuse the absence of allot of hummingbirds. They are everywhere and I got tired of shooting them.
Am leaving here next week so I am not going to do much more photography. I am going to enjoy the scenery and just take my binoculars.

These are just a very few of what I took, I got tired of post processing them and posting them.

Thanks, Easy to take. There are little birding places all over Ecuador. It's a business here. Cost is about 10-15 bucks if you want to go sit and photograph birds. They bait in the birds by the hundreds. I paid 15 bucks for the mountain toucan and the plated toucan.. Ant birds are trained to come out on command. The Cock of the rock was 15 bucks. If you like birds it is a cheap place to come birding. I avoid the bird birding lodges. They are nice if you want to spend a few thousand birding.
Actually I am thinking of buying a cheap car.
Really that easy,

Beautiful birds! Lots of high ISO's, typical for the rain forest, but they look terrific.

Thanks Dave. Yes, High ISO's are a reality here in the cloud forest. Have to try and get as close as possible.. Luckily in Ecuador it is easy to get close... Same in Colombia.

If I weren't so lazy, I'd be packing my bags based on your comments. If I showed this to my wife, she'd be scheming already, but we have a new puppy and he's too young to kennel.

Know what you mean, I have a pooch also. Older , but lucky to have good friends back in the US that love and take care of him as their on. When I am back in the US he goes with me on all my birding adventures..

. I mix travel and birding together. Try to head to places with good birding.

Agree, I like slow travel mixed with birding.
