I just sent my Nikon ZF in for warranty repair a couple of days ago, due to a mechanical failure with the shutter speed dial, and am wondering if anyone else has heard about this issue or had it happen to their camera.
I don’t abuse my gear, and haven’t bumped my camera or dropped it ever. I took it out for a couple of hours about 2 weeks ago and everything was working fine, and I picked it up last week and all of a sudden the shutter speed dial won’t turn properly. I could only get it to turn slightly, and when it did turn, the camera mode dial (eg. B&W, Stills and Video) would turn with it. The dial lock was not engaged. I had my PASM dial set to M and even with the battery out of the camera, the dial would not turn very much. I have only a few thousand shots on this camera. This is the first time I’ve ever had any issues.
Luckily, it’s still under warranty so Nikon should repair it for free, but it did cost a bit to ship it to them. I’m not sure I’ll trust it not to fail again as it seems like this is a design flaw. I’m not a pro photographer, so I don’t make my living with this camera, but when you spend close to $2k, you have certain expectations.
