The 20-70mm works OK on the Nikon bodies, with a couple/few (possibly deal-breaking) caveats:
• As others have pointed out, its considerable distortion at the wide end is not corrected in the camera. Framing with the viewfinder is no longer WYSIWYG. JPEGs are out. You have to shoot raw and correct in post.
• For reasons I don't fully understand, the lens yields a wider field of view when shot on a Sony; even after corrections (possibly related to cover glass differences?)
• The lens is slightly less sharp at the borders when shot on the Nikon. Not significant, and probably invisible on a 24mpx body like the Zf.
I've attached some test shots I made when I was in the midst of switching to Nikon that show what I mean.
PS - I decided I wasn't happy with the uncorrected viewfinder, so I ended up selling the 20-70mm and going with the 24-120mm. It is a stellar lens, but I really miss the 20mm option....Show more →
Jesus.. I'm out.
Thank you for those samples, it really shows how adapted Sony WA lens work on Nikon.
I wish Nikon could make some 20-xx mm lens, even with f4.

Many standard and wide zooms do make it a little less desirable to adapt, but where adapting Sony lenses really can make sense is with the good primes. I’ve used the 35/1.4 and 50/1.2 GMs, (and still have the 35/1.4), and they are wonderful adapted to Z. Same with the CV 21/1.4.

For what it's worth I have the Megadap Pro adapter and the 20-70. I also have an A7CII that I use it on sometimes, but it works fine and is easily corrected by applying the profile in post. You just aren't going to use a SOOC JPEG with it, that's all. I really like the lens a lot.
