L bracket for F6

p.1 #1 · L bracket for F6

Looking for recommendations on an L bracket for my F6. After searching for many months I am not finding any that were specifically made for the F6 like RRS BF6-L. Are there any universal brackets that are known to fit well. I have looked at the Three Legged Thing Universal but would appreciate comments on this or other options. Or, if someone has a RRS BF6-L to sell I am interested.

Z6, Z7, Z6II, Z7II shares the same external body, so you can buy the one you prefer.
All the camera body bases share a centering hole exactly at the same position, so all the plates (usually) fits well.
I use a Smallrig one and it is doing its job, even if the planar screwdriver after 3 years is getting a little bit of rust, probably because of the many coastal session with rain.
I own also a “no name” one and it seems to work correctly as well, even if I prefer the Smallrig.

This if you do not have specific needs that address you to the surely better RRS.

[EDIT] My fault, I apologize. I read Z6 instead of F6!!

Are you claiming that the F6 has the same body design at the base in 2004 as the Z6 from 2018?

My experience has been that those magnetically held screw drivers fall off and disappear.
I'm 0 for 2 in that department with the SmallRig bases. I prefer the 4mm or 5/32" hex driver design most companies use.

I would contact Kirk (BF6L) or RRS (BF6-L) and see what they have to say about a generic plate.
I found a great Kirk generic bracket for a Canon for example.

Thank you all for your comments.

I did speak with a RRS representative and was told their universal bracket likely would not be a good fit. They have no stock remaining for the F6 not surprisingly.

I looked at Kirk’s offerings and it appears that the system they have for older cameras involves two plates, one for the base of the camera and an L plate that attaches to the adjustable base. Their offerings go back to FM series and a number of other Nikon vintage film bodies, including the F5. Although the two-plate system is available for a number of these older bodies, oddly none is available for the F6.

If you’re willing to spend a huge amount of money, there’s a RRS one for sale on eBay at the moment:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/326846544100?_skw=nikon%20f6%20l%20bracket

Looking at the size of that, I’d imaging most universal brackets would work just fine.

Jman13,

Yes, I have seen that listing and have made some reasonable offers but all were declined. The BIN price is a bit over the top and the listing is about two weeks old. Not many takers at that price. Thanks for the heads up though.

I believe this one might work - https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1920268/0?keyword=l,bracket#16914097

Oops. I misread the title as being for the Z6, not the F6.

This Kirk bracket was mentioned above and I looked at it on the Kirk site. Hard to know about fitment from photographs but you are the second responder who recommends it. Interested to know more about why you believe this bracket will work. I contacted the FM seller. Asking price is $80 so it’s a pretty good deal based on the new ($220) price. May be worth a try. Thanks for you recommendation and the link to the Kirk for sale listing.

Nevermind...I misread the title as being for the Z6, not the F6. Sorry.

OP are you the one that finally bought that one on eBay? Kinda curious to know whether seller relented and sold for a reasonable price or if someone decided they wanted a fitted plate badly enough to pay a "collector" premium. I guess it's one of those things where if you're super duper sure you love the F6 and are going to continue using it long term, the amount you're spending per photo ends up averaging out over time. Or at least that's what I tell myself every time I buy a $400 gobo projector or something lol

That’s the universal I own and I would think it would work quite well overall. It may block battery door access but that’s the price one pays for a universal bracket. However this is basically a non issue for a film camera. I got it for when I was reviewing new cameras so I haven’t used it in a while but it’s well made and big enough for most SLRs.

Thanks for the replies. I May check out the Kirk universal. Battery door blockage seems to be a minor annoyance as I don’t find myself changing batteries that often.
