Link and Celestial button combos:
Encoder: Link: press center dial, Celestial: press center button
For the LINK:
Power +Test= Reset factory default settings. If the unit is off, the model lamp will come on at mid brightness, but the unit otherwise remains off, and should power on normally.
Encoder (dial)+Test= Firmware version. All segments will disappear, and Flash and Model segments will display two sets of numbers. These will indicate the second and third segments of the firmware version currently installed. For example, firmware version 001.002.123 will display as “2” in the flash segment, and “123” in the model lamp segment.
Encoder+Power= Flash tube selection. Currently there is a choice between 10mm tubes (which is a new optional tube) and the standard 14mm tube. The display will go blank, and “10” or “14” will appear in the Flash segment.
For the Celestial:
Menu +Power= Reset factory default settings. Only available when the unit is powered on.
Encoder (dial)+Menu= Firmware version. All segments will disappear, and Flash and Model segments will display two sets of numbers. These will indicate the second and third segments of the firmware version currently installed. For example, firmware version 001.002.123 will display as “2” in the flash segment, and “123” in the model lamp segment.
Encoder+Power= Battery Sleep mode. This puts the battery into a state where it cannot supply power, and minimizes any self-discharge. This is recommended for long term storage (on or off the flash), and for shipping the battery. To wake the battery from the sleep mode, connect the charger for about 5 seconds.
10mm flashtube:
You should not notice any visual changes in the light quality [compared to 14mm flashtube]. Flash durations may be slightly affected, but not likely to a degree to affect real world use. I would have to get the tables to elaborate with any accuracy. Optimization will require changing the flash tube setting in the flash unit.
The 10mm tube, however, will have a significantly longer life, and will also mitigate the sound that is generated by the 14mm tube substantially.
The 10mm tube is compatible (and was once used with) the AlienBee 800s and 400s. I would expect them to be compatible, at least to some extent, with any light that uses the 14mm standard tube (Alien Bee, DigiBee, WhiteLighting), though I would need to verify what nuanced differences there are. Flash durations will likely lengthen, and life spans may be affected at very low or very high power levels (such as B400 at minimum, and X3200 at maximum).
Einstein and Celestial use tubes that are dedicated to their respective designs.
