p.1 #1 · remote flash - what is the wireless range and do they timeout?

I've been away from photography for almost a decade now but still have some equipment. So this question isn't entirely photography related but stay with me. There is a vehicle that blast down out street at 3-4x the speed limit daily. The person lives further down the street and its pretty annoying since nothing can really be done about it. The police cannot do anything except increased patrols which is basically we'll drive down the street but thats not going to solve things. I could buy a radar camera, which even that would likely go nowhere. Not to mention the cost makes it unfeasible. So short of this guy killing someones beloved family pet or small child nothing will ever be done

Also as most of you know everyone has Ring cameras or some other security camera system nowadays. So that limits any questionably legal solutions - believe me I've got some ideas that I'm sure after a few beers would be pretty tempting to pursue.

Anyhow I got to thinking I do have some old flashes would it be possible to remote trigger those from my house if they're camouflaged and hidden? I remember pocket wizards from back in the day guessing they are still around but is there anything better or what would be a good way of setting this up. Ideally I want to be able to sit in bed and hear him coming then flash!!!!

Are you actually trying to capture photos? Or do you just want to trigger the flash for effect? Most radio triggering works up to 100m depending on obstructions.

SO...you are wanting to momentarily blind this person with the flash? I would think that might create a fairly dangerous situation. Plus, I'm not sure I understand how this would deter this person from continuing this activity anyway. It might end up triggering a retaliatory response that you would not want. I can tell you, it would piss me right the hell off.

Personally, I would hesitate to suggest any course of action to you on a public forum, especially if something "unfortunate" would happen to anyone as a result of that suggestion.

My suggestion would be to petition the local council or HOA to get some speed bumps built.

There's an alternate method. My city has repeatedly voted down increased taxes for road maintenance. Over time that tends to create "naturally occurring speed bumps" (also known at potholes).

That's crazy. Because then he runs off the road at 3-4x the legal speed, and you bear at least 50% of the ensuing civil liability and possibly all of the criminal liability - because you are the last link the the causal chain.

I would do these things:
1) have a polite chat with the neighbour suggesting it's best for everyone if he hooned around on back streets, not your street.
2) get a radar gun, https://www.ebay.ca/itm/127497246829, video yourself using it. With the the video showing the car/license plate/driver's face, the speed on the back of the gun, and the time of day, and your contemporaneous notes about how you set the time on the video, and all the elements of the video (radar gun used, etc), and how you managed the chain of custody of the video evidence, the neighbour will lose their licence. Stuff like this you need to hand to the cops tie up with a bow.
3) once mission accomplished, sell the radar gun. In effect, you just rented it.

Is radar evidence obtained by a private citizen using uncalibrated ebay toys admissible in Canadian courts? In most US states, the police would politely decline that type of assistance. In California, you'd probably get arrested for violating the speeder's rights.
