p.1 #1 · Lens making a constant low noise (14mm GM)
So, my 14mm f1.8 GM is making a constant noise whenever the camera is powered on. The noise is similar to a small computer fan running or a white noise. May be the focus motor as manually focusing the lens changes the noise a bit. All functions seem to work as they should but I'm sure the noise is not good.
Other lenses do not make this noise on the same camera (a7RV). I'm sure the lens is out of warranty; I got it here barely used, and it has been a while.
I've contacted Sony, who knows what they may say, but wanted to see if anything jumps out as a suggestion in the meantime. Thanks!

Usually noises like that are the IBIS unit, not the lens, if the lens doesn't have OSS.
Turning the image stabilization off in the menu settings does not impact the noise. Other lenses without OSS do not produce the noise with the camera on regardless of image stabilization menu settings.

Check your aperture drive in AF setting. That can make audible sound. Although that should effect all lenses. What do you have the lens focus hold button set to do? Try disabling it. Perhaps the button is stuck or the contacts misfiring so some function is continuously being activated.

I’ll try this in a few days, out of town currently. Appreciate the suggestions.

I had turned that on and my 55/1.8 sounded freaky after doing it.

Getting back to this...
Aperture drive is on Standard. There is not an 'off', but any of the 3 settings (Focus, Standard, Silent) do not change the noise from the lens.
Focus hold button was set to subject recognition. Turning this button off (Not Set) does not change the noise from the lens.

For an update, Sony repair (precision camera) said the lens needs first rear assembly and the 2nd-3rd assembly to be replaced. It has sat for over a month in 'technical delay' which I'm guessing means no parts available or they don't know what to do. $700 repair bill...

Closing this out, got the lens back shortly after the last post. Issue remained the same as original complaint. Sent the lens back to precision camera and they re-evaluated and actually used the same model camera, etc. to reproduce the issue. They replaced the main board, issue seems resolved. Unsure if any of the original repair items were actually needed.
As an interesting note, the lens would only make the noise on the newer camera bodies and not the lower tier/older bodies for them.
