Well, at least they speculated on something interesting in this very very cliquey world of ours. It´s all entertainment, at least trying to be. Nothing more nothing less. Unless you start buying...
It's all about the money...they hope. Why do people think they can get away with subscription plans for basically anything?
CR has moved away from an enthusiast site with interesting and respected rumors to $$$. It is litterally infested with ads and I'd say 80% of the content these days are just camera news and random articles.
Since I follow a few other rumors sites for other brands (Fujifilm and Sony mostly), I’ve felt for some time that there isn’t a lot to report on such sites about Canon. Is that because there’s not as much happening in Canon world or because Canon is less amenable to rumors these days?

Looking at their fb page it's just the forum shutting down, with new way of commenting coming, the rest is staying the same
Canon seems to have clamped down on rumors idk if i even heard about 24-105/2.8 etc before release. I don't think its good for business, myself but they didn't ask me
After all the complete misses it is pretty obvious he has no insight into the new gear coming. Basically just making up stuff to try to get views looks like to me. Strange way to make a living IMO. Reminds me of the expression "Flim flam man".
I suspect CR is closing their forum due to the fading participation. For most people, the forum function was replaced with social media and YouTube. Today, it is mostly old Boomers trolling these hallowed halls...
Well, if they do shut down maybe some of their forum members will come over here and give the FM forums more life. It's been really slow around here for a while now.
Sheesh, latest rumor from CR is their forum may continue...
“My web host and development team does not want the forum to die, nor do the people on Facebook, my inbox or really anywhere else. You do expect responses, but I didn't expect that many.
Now I sound like Canon an hour after they announce a product.
We are exploring other ideas to keep the forum alive. One of them is moving it to its own domain and it becomes a separate entity. There is a big reason why I would have to do this, but I can't share that reason. It doesnt matter to you anyway. 🙂
I am waiting for approval on this concept from a third-party. I think it'll work, but we'll see.
The forum takes a lot of resources and operates in the red every single year. That's a reality that I have been ok with. There may be other ways to generate the revenue to break even, or get closer to breaking even.
So that's where we're at.”
I think Artsupreme hit the nail on the head. It seems to me that the majority of forum participants skew older. It seems many have migrated to social media. I recall when new threads on the Canon forum would run into 2 pages. Now it seems so sparse. I worry for fora in general and FM forms specifically.

Wing.
Yes, it's a bummer that often I log in and I see less than 10 active threads in the last 24hrs. A lot of us come here to discuss our passion, and often find there is very little to discuss. This is and has always been my only form of "social media" for photography. I wish there was a way to spice it up around here.
Some of it may be that the camera tech is so strong now that there's not much to complain about. No more DR and AF brand wars. With AF performance nearing perfection, the only major improvements we could expect to see will be DR and ISO performance. The R5II has a lot of room for improvement in the noise department, but that's about all I could ask for at this point other than some little bells and whistles that don't mean much to other shooters.
I have long seen so many complain about noise regarding the R5MkII. Frankly with the advent of both DXO Photolab 8 and Topaz Photo noise is a thing of the past right up to ISO 51,200. So why is noise in a camera even brought up? Even results from a OM1 MkII at ISO 25,800 is virtually not even there. And I mean with NO detail destruction (contrary to so many reviews of cameras out there in general). ISO noise is pretty much a thing of the past. I haven't touched the likes of anything Adobe for that reason. DXO and Topaz are far beyond them at this point. I take a RAW into either of those two and voila' great detail, sharpness and not a hint of grain anywhere to be found at higher ISO's which interestingly enough I rarely shoot at in the first place. ISO6400 is about the extreme for me and that's nothing to banish noise at. Even ON1 can do that. In the end to ME it's no longer an issue with what a RAW from camera is about. It's about what it ends up after a tad bit of post processing. Even in batch.

Agreed, noise is very manageable with software these days, and it's nice to say that's all there is to complain about, even if nit picking. As you say ISO noise is a thing of the past I disagree because we'll always be chasing higher ISO's, and therefore noise will always be a thing to deal with. Just as ISO 51K is the new 6400K, the chase will continue up to 409k and beyond. And eventually, DXO and Topaz will be a thing of the past for the current ISO range you are using it for.
