Like the subject says, I can’t get my R5 mark l past 1/8000 shutter speed with the electronic shutter. I just picked up a RF 50 1.2 and while shooting in manual or TV mode, 1/8000 was all I could reach. That kind of limits my use on bright days. What am I missing?

On the R5 mk 2-

Only in manual mode or Shutter priority-

Aperture mode it caps at 8k.

Not sure if this is the problem-

Edit-

Did u check the specs? Looks like 1/8000 is max in both Ms and Es-

R5mk2 goes to 1/32000

Don’t rely on AI results

I think Mark l goes to 1/32000. My R8 goes to 1/16000. I guess that’s an option but Durant solve my perceived issue.

After watching some videos, it looks like the Mark l only goes to 1/8000. I know I have a Singh variable ND around here somewhere.🤷🏼

Like others have said, I think the mk1 only goes to 1/8000th also. But just in case, is there a “blackout free” shooting option in the menu? I recently found out the hard way that having that enabled on the mk2 will restrict you to 1/8000th also, which I found very odd.

The manual indicates that 1/8000 is the fastest shutter speed even with the electronic shutter.

Thank you. At 1.2, that can be a problem. Going to use my Singh-Ray VND, or my R8, which gives me one more stop at 1/16000.

You're welcome. The ND filter sounds like a good plan. I hadn't checked the electronic shutter speed on the R5 previously and was a bit surprised that it isn't faster. Even on my Fujifilm X-E5, it can go to 1/180000 in electronic shutter.

My X-S10 goes to 1/32000 and you can set it to transition automatically. The R5 is a bit of a disappointment in that regard.

That is one of the things I’ve loved most with my Fujis since the X-T1, which is all the more reason why it was ultra disappointing to have to wait on the other brands for so long. At least with Sony, I got it in 2017 with the A9. Had to wait a bit longer with Canons. It is absolutely a super helpful/useful feature if you’re a fast lens person.

In sunny 16 conditions you can be at ISO 50, 1/8000s and f/1.4

Losing a third stop from f/1.2 to 1.4 is not the end of the world...
