I was a volunteer for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund for about 25 years Allen. There was always a ceremony on Veterans Day, Memorial Day and Vietnam Veterans Day. So I had "front row seats".
This monument to our heroes always brings back a flood of memories!

Very moving. I personnally wish it didn't happen. It didn't have to happen. I was living in Europe at that time. but I followed all the battles closely. Well, that is all human. The USA and Vietnam are now in peace and are real allied.. And both countries are in good shape.

Dan,
I just commented on your other photo from base in '69. This shot gives a completely different perspective (over 50 years later) of how many men were lost and of those who won't forget. Again, thanks for your service and sacrifice, and by publishing these photos, helping to keep it from being forgotten.

It seems those Countries that were our worst enemies are now our best allies!
The "Domino Theory" of Communism was the philosophy in my time. Global colonialism was reaching its end also. The Vietnamese people were tired of it despite their relations with China and Russia.
I was a college student. I had to study, and study hard, to make my grades..which were not all that good btw. I NEVER watched tv and knew very little about SE Asia conflict. Despite being a History major. But I had to learn about it fast in early 1967!
I believe Pres. Ronald Reagan said it best about the soldiers of the Vietnam War:
"The Vietnam veteran came home without a victory, not because they had been defeated, but because they had been denied permission to win....."
Amen Mr. President!!
