Leica LUX Grip is a GREAT iPhone enhancement

p.1 #1 · Leica LUX Grip is a GREAT iPhone enhancement

I was very skeptical of this rather expensive (US $400) add-on grip for the iPhone. But when I found a used one for a substantial discount, I had to try it. And I'm very glad I did.

Because of tremors in my right hand, it's difficult for me to get steady shots from the iPhone cameras (especially the tele lens). It's hard for me to press the on-screen shutter button or adjust the controls while trying to hold the camera steady. I thought the 'camera control button' on my new iPhone 17 Pro would solve this, but I still shake the camera when trying to press it (because it's not an actual button, it's a touch pad).

The LUX solves the problem in three ways:
• It has physical buttons and a click-wheel to control my most-used functions (switching lenses and exposure compensation).
• It has a good-sized grip that gives me a much steadier shooting position.
• And best of all, it has a two-stage shutter button, with a half-press to focus. This enables me to release the shutter without jarring the camera as much as I would otherwise.

I was initially completely turned off to the product when I read that it required you to subscribe to the Leica LUX iPhone app for $70 per year. But that turns out to be wrong. You can utilize the main functions of the grip with the free version of the app. (The subscription gives you access to their lens simulations and some other features which I don't' care about.)

I would enthusiastically recommend the LUX grip to anyone who shares my difficulty in holding the phone steady. It's a very well designed product that functions beautifully. And while the price is certainly high, there are no other comparable products, so I feel the price is justified.

BTW, I'd tried a couple other iPhone grips before, most recently the ShiftCam SnapGrip. They add a mediocre grip and a Bluetooth shutter release; they don't compare at all to the LUX.

Thanks for sharing! I found out about this a few days ago and was curious to know how it performed. I may get one just to try it out now.
