p.1 #1 · Frosted Aspen Leaves (and early wake-up call)
I’m up early this morning, sitting in a hotel room and about to leave for another day of fall color photography in the Sierra Nevada. (Yosemite Valley this time.) Before I head out, a different take on my series of photographs of fallen aspen leaves rimmed with frost, from the Eastern Sierra Nevada a few weeks ago.
Now, to finish that cup of “delightful” motel coffee and load up the vehicle…

It is, again, the favorite of those you posted recently. Love everything about this image - the colors, its composition, and that it takes my mind to this special place. I could easily see this one printed large and hanging in the foyer of a major business.

Thanks, Al. I’m doing some printing this week, and working up a print of this one is on the agenda.

Fred, thanks. And indeed, hotel coffee is generally not on my “most desired” list. This place surprised me by at least having an in-room Keurig machine, so it wasn’t bad. Not great, but enough to help me face getting up about three hours before sunrise for a drive to today’s location.

Really wonderful, Dan!
Maybe you'll start traveling with your own coffee-making rig.........? Too bad the Whoa Nellie Deli doesn't open early!
Thanks!
Heh. I actually usually travel with my own espresso and a press when I’m camping. But this was a quick trip so I traveled very light. I have a morning ritual when photographing. I get up well before sunrise (of course) and simply head out without breakfast or (shudder!) coffee. Sometime later, when the best light is gone (generally mid to late morning) I head back to campo and, brew up that coffee, and sit in my camp chair in a sunny spot. :-)
I was on the west side this time, concentrating on areas in and around Yosemite Valley, where the fall color (oaks, dogwoods, and big leaf maple, mostly) was at peak. So Whoa Nellie would have been a LONG drive! (I did consider running up to Tuolumne, but opted for closer subjects since I was just there a few weeks ago.)
