p.1 #1 · Some 'Big Cat' portraits from the Austin Zoo
I went out to the Austin Zoo the other morning hoping to get some decent shots of some of the big cats they have living there. I do like to support this operation, as they are a 'rescue and rehab' facility and provide a home and good care for a lot of animals that wouldn't survive in the wild.
As zoos go, it's a pretty small operation, but they are in the process of doing a lot of upgrades to better provide for their animals and improve the viewing experience for visitors.
Shooting is always a challenge as most of the enclosures are surrounded with chain link and livestock metal fencing. Still, in the right circumstances, close up shots are possible that obscure the fencing.
Most of the cats were pretty lazy -- except for 'Zulema' the White Tiger. She and I bonded with some back and forth 'chuffing' as she rubbed her whiskers on the fencing, and played with a huge 'toy ball' she has.
Here are a few close ups I was pretty happy with.
