p.1 #1 · Adobe + Topaz Partnership

I was looking at the Photoshop 27 update notes and this was a little surprising:

https://helpx.adobe.com/africa/photoshop/desktop/repair-retouch/clean-restore-images/enhance-image-quality-with-generative-upscale.html

If you decide to upscale using generative AI, you can now use either Firefly (Adobe's engine) or outsource it to Topaz Labs for about the double the cost in credits.

I wonder if this is the future of Topaz's model. I'm grandfathered in to Topaz's products as a founder but a year from now I'll have to pay for it. If the rest of Topaz's tools get added to Photoshop as options (presumably sharpen and denoise) I don't understand why I would continue to pay for Topaz at all.

Sidenote: will it still be possible to use bicubic and/or the other upscaling options that don't use AI to upscale?
