p.1 #1 · EASTERN SIERRA DURING AND AFTER THE RECENT SNOW STORM

I recently returned from the Eastern Sierra . I was planning on shooting fall color, but I arrived after the peak and just as an unusual heavy October snow storm dumped a lot of snow at high altitudes and closed Tioga Pass. I spent a rainy day in Bishop and the next day managed to be in the Alabama Hills when the storm lifted. There was magnificent new snow on the peaks and beautiful fog and clouds. After that we moved to Lee Vining to photograph the side canyons. The star of the show was not autumn color, but the new snow on the mountain tops and the crisp clear air and beautiful sky and clouds. It was so beautiful and at the time I knew that no photograph could capture how glorious it was. I was right, but I did take some good photos. Here are a few:

As I wrote in our earlier version of this post in another forum, the McGee Creek photo is fascinating in that the mist/precipitation produces a sense of depth in the distant landscape that is usually hard to create from the spot where you set up your camera.

Amazing set, fall colors with snow...now that's something I have not seen. #5 is spectacular, print it large. Thanks for sharing these with us. You have a vote from my end.

Nice work, #1 for me - thanks for the large version. My only niggle is it looks like you might have used a bit too much jpg compression - I see a lot of artifacts in the sky.
