Another great series Dan! #1 is my favorite picture - the young green undergrowth looks so nice under the aspen trees...

Thanks. You know, initially, with my focus on the fall foliage, I sort of resented the intrusion of the green growth. I think that’s why I did not immediately work up this photograph. But coming back to it I saw it differently, and the element actually makes it work.

Nature's beauty NEVER last long enough for me Dan! Especially the Fall. I am sort of in a similiar situation with the mountains that go "downhill" to "the Swamp(Washgtn,DC). I too start out at the high altitudes and work down.

Again GREAT compositions here Dan!!

It is all transient. While the mountains themselves change slowly enough that we can convince ourselves that hey are permanent, everything else is in transition: light, color, leaves, and more. I’ve photographed some places long enough now that I see changes even in some of the things that seem fixed.

I wonder if we would appreciate fall colors as much if they were not so transitory. I don’t think so!

And "who" said photography isn't philosophical? albeit "religious"?

Heh. But any creative endeavor can end up “going there” at some point.

(If you want to see one example of where philosophy and photography can take you, check out Utah photographer Guy Tal.)

Awesome pics. Will need to visit my favorite spots in Southern Utah / Northern AZ again sometime.

Those clouds really help your composition. Shooting desert with clear blue skies are just not as interesting.

Thanks.

I need to get back there soon, too! And, yes, the clouds help quite a bit, especially in the Capitol Reef photo. When the skies are pure blue in such places I often prefer to work in canyons, where sky rarely plays a part at all — and where the brightest sun ends up being softly reflected between walls of the canyon.

Thanks!

Your handle caught my eye, by the way. I once camped at a place called Mud Lake for a week…
