p.1 #1 · Is the Z6iii a slow seller at $2700?

Nikon has been rolling out massive discounts on the Z6iii repeatedly, including the current $500 one that brings the price to $2200. Seems to suggest that they are having trouble moving the body at $2700.

I don’t know if they ever let it sit at the new MSRP for very long. It’s been on rebate more or less for most of its time on sale. Just how Nikon does business lately.

I mean, for what it offers, it's still a great value at $2,699.95. IIRC, release price was $2,496.95, but it's been out now for more than a year and these sales are common.

I bought one as 3rd camera to back up my Z8 and Z9. I find it especially useful when shooting in bad weather as a way to keep 3 lenses on 3 cameras. I however bought it with the rebate and a 10% Nikon Platinum Pro Plan. As a result, I paid about $1850 before taxes... Had I not had these steep discounts, I would have purchased a used Z8 for $2800 (or so) instead.

The Z6III is an amazing camera and it is priced fairly with the rebates, in the absence of them, I'm not sure that the MSRP is a terribly competitive. The reality is that tariffs forced the pricing structure, and consumers should demand more from the government rather than the manufacturer... jmo

No it's one of their best selling cameras along with the Z5ii and the Zf.

You must be new to Nikon, they always rotate discounts and they get better around the holidays. Unless a camera just came out you should never be paying MSRP. Just wait for a sale.

Here in Europe, the MSRP of the Z6 III is 2800 EUR, which comes to about 3,260 USD. Nikon does occasionally offer discounts, but MUCH less so than the US. There was a recent weekend sale at a photoshow where they offered about 20% off if you bought a Z6 III together with Z 24-120 lens on the kit. If you are counting MSRP on the body + lens, the discount price was more like 25%.

Then again, all European prices a) include 20% VAT, and b) Nikon products come with 2 2-year warranty.

The Z6III is a solid seller. Great companion to a Z8.

In terms of the EU, and particularly the German-speaking region, it is at least the Z-body that has fallen fastest in price.
When the Z6III was launched, Nikon was very aggressive with its RRP, or let's call it greedy.
The MSRP here was €2,999 at launch, which, however, includes the mandatory VAT of 19-20% in the EU.
Just four months after its official launch, the Z6III was already available for €2,369 including VAT during the first winter discount campaign.
The MRSP was then reduced relatively quickly to €2,799, but the Z6III has long been available for between €2,049 and €2,199 during Nikon's regular discount campaigns, gross, so 19% VAT is already included.

This is a pretty clear indication that the market, at least here, will not accept a much higher price for the Z6III.
All other Z bodies have retained their value for much longer, or at least have not been discounted so early or so heavily.
Even now, when there are no Nikon discounts available here, the Z6III is available for €2,149 to €2,199, including 19% VAT.
In contrast, a silver ZF costs €2,499, and even a black ZF is currently still available for €1,949.

The Canon R6 III is expected to be announced November 6 and the Sony a7V is also expected to be announced in November.

That R6 III is exactly what the Z6iii should have been. The high frame rate is most useful to wildlife and sports shooters... and both of them often need to crop heavily, which makes 24 Mpx impractical in a reasonable number of situations. At the time the Z6iii came out I debated heavily whether to get it vs a used Z8. Ultimately I decided that the smaller size and weight of the Z6iii were more suitable for me.

A week ago I bought a minty Z8 at a price that was difficult to pass on, just to see how it feels. I am finding it very similar in feel to the Z6iii, does not feel large and heavy at all. The absence of that STUPID flippy screen is such a relief, not to mention the severe compromise in stability of L clamps that the screen cutout requires. The extra customization buttons are handy. And the 40 Mpx comes in very handy as I am giving birding a try and even at 600mm the birds here in San Diego are often far enough in estuaries to require heavy cropping that would not have been possible with the Z6iii.

Been using Nikons for 20 years and this is the first time I feel like they misjudged the customer. The Z6iii is a fine camera, but it feels like it tries to be something to everyone.

That's not true at all.

Here(in Poland), now, without any discount you can pick up new Z6 III for roughly 2350$ and it's on sale every like 3 months or so for around 2000$.

Great value, imo.

Obviously you like the Z8 more but I arrived at the opposite conclusion. The Z6III is just about a perfect camera and leaves me wanting for very little. Screen type is the least of my worries, and 24mp is about perfect for what I shoot. Of course, if I know I’ll need higher res I can always rent a Z8.

I guess one should buy camera gear in Poland instead of France, but here I haven't seen any regular sales that brings a Nikon Z6 III down to 2K EURO. I also checked Sweden, where the price is equivalent to 2700 euros.

This is how I feel about it. I shot for a long time on the Sony a7RV, but while is great and fun to zoom in 200%+ on your computer to peep, I don't really use that amount of MPs. For daily use, 24mp is fine for me, and I prefer the size, weight and money of a Z6 III over a Z8. When I go on safari, probably in 2026, I'll rent a Z8 or Z9 to bring with me.

I find that for those who like the Z6III, they *love* it. It’s an exceedingly good creative companion, and I think for a lot of people they’ve arrived at choosing it through years of experience, and know exactly what they’re getting in to and why. The differences between the Z6III and Z8 should be obvious, and sometimes more isn’t necessary, or even admirable.

I went from a Z8 to the Z6 III. The Z8 is an incredibly good camera, but I don’t really need 45MP and I much prefer the smaller size and weight of the Z6 III. I use a Z50II for birds which gets me the same pixel reach as a Z8, plus it’s a wonderful little camera for travel with the small DX lenses.

I don't know of a single person that has paid $2700 for their Z6iii. I think most buyers are a little more savvy, and Nikon is doing a good job at giving them multiple paths to save money.
