I have been researching primes in this focal range exclusively for Landscape with the best resolving capabilities edge-to-edge. So far, I find the following candidates,
I will be shooting on song FF, mostly on tripod and MF, so AF features and VR differences, how do these lenses stack up purely based on edge-to-edge performance? Should I consider the old Canon Ls or Nikons?
Please share your thoughts. I did not find any direct image comparisons online.
Back when I was shooting Canon EF mount (100-400 II), the Nikon PF called to me.
I'm now shooting the L mount and have the Siggy 500/5.6 Sport Series. I can't speak to a head to head comparison, but I totally forgot about the Nikon. The Siggy is good. Markedly better AF than their supertelezooms (imo). Granted, not your OP area of interest (AF / Zoom), just tossing that in for a freebie.
I don’t have the Nikon but the Sigma is excellent. A fabulous optic. Great performance wide open with only a tiny improvement stopped down. There are many reviews of this on line.
Thank you All for sharing your inputs. I am surprised the online resource(s) have very little in terms of direct comparison. Overall, I get the sense these lenses are very close in terms of resolving power edge-to-edge. back lighting performance could make a huge difference for my use (Thanks).
500mm is not my typical landscape FL. but, in rare occasions I found 200mm-FF (cy 100-300) not providing enough reach. will try the 500mm in Yosemite and the Sierras (Fall colors) and see if I like it.
Appreciate any comparison samples from either.
Thanks,
Michael
