p.1 #1 · Thypoch Simera 50mm 1.4 back focusing

So I have an M11 with a 35mm Summilux and Thypoch 28mm Simera. Both lenses are perfectly adjusted. When the rangefinder patch is lined up, the image is in perfect focus.

I just received my second copy of the 50mm Simera 1.4 and when the rangefinder patch is perfectly lined up, everything BEHIND what I focused on, is in focus. I know the 28 and 35 have adjustments. I cannot find anything for the 50mm. I saw someone mentioned shims but couldn't find any more info on that. Has anyone run across this? I really want this lens to work out seeing as to how I spent everything else on the body and 35 Summilux lol Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

First, confirm whether the lens is actually back-focusing using the quick method below. If it is, you'll need to add shims behind the mount to correct it. There's no internal adjustment on any Thypoch lens...you might be thinking of TTArtisan lenses.

Quick Guide: Fixing Front or Back Focus on Rangefinder Lenses
1. Use Live View (LV) to achieve accurate focus.
2. Check the rangefinder patch. If it doesn’t align, note the direction you must turn the focus ring to make it line up (while holding the camera in your normal shooting position).

Rule of Thumb:
• If you turn the focus ring clockwise (toward infinity) to align the patch, the lens is front-focusing – remove shims or lightly shave the mount.
• If you turn the focus ring counterclockwise (toward MFD) to align the patch, the lens is back-focusing – add shims.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I took the back off and it has a .02 shim. I just wish I knew where to get different shims.

I get email from this address, having bought direct:

store <[email protected]>

..and try the email links at the bottom of this page:

https://thypoch.com/en/products/simera/simera-50mm

(those ask for an app when I try them.)

..otherwise, contact a dealer in the US, ideally whomever you bought it from.

https://thypoch.com/en/shop/purchase/dealer

Just keep at it, be the squeaky wheel that needs the oil.

Have low expectations for the first one or two contact points, just ask them who do you go to for the shims? Ask for email addresses and/or phone numbers. If you do well, consider posting here (for others to use). cheers.

Just an update. I got a few emails saying someone would reach out to me, but it never happened. Ended up returning it to B&H for a used 50mm Summicron. Can't wait until it gets here!

Enjoy the Summicron. I regret selling mine, despite still having 4 50mm in m mount.

Same with my 75mm f1.4 Thypoch. Quite a bit of front focusing at various distances on a well-calibrated M11-P body. Bought directly from them, communication was sparse, I provided them pictures to illustrate the issue, got promises someone would get back to me; didn't happen for almost a month until I reached out to the credit card company. Then they came back with return shipping label to Hong Kong. Being new to direct online sales to international customers and considering language barriers, I give them benefit of doubt. Hopefully, things will improve with time.

I have good 28mm and 50mm Simeras, but returned two 35mm due to obvious decentering. They definitely need to up their tolerance and QC.
