p.1 #1 · Selling vs. Listing Prices on Leica Equipment

In looking for another Q3 I was marveling at the over-optimistic prices being asked on Ebay for used Q3 cameras. Many are seeking $5400usd - $6000usd. However, if you look on Ebay for completed sales, not the obviously ridiculous zero sale, Chinese scammers. Actual sold/completed sales, the average SOLD (not asking) price is $3,400 for the last 5 sold Q3s. The ones remaining for sale sit for more than a month. Some are relisted multiple times (easy to research) and some likely are removed from owner embarrassment thinking their used, unwarranted electronic equipment is worth almost double what it actually will sell for. MPB and similar resellers are at least providing evaluation and return, and even a 6mo warranty for the extra being asked. The "sell to" offering currently is $3,800 so that's more than the most recent sold/completed Ebay sales.

Not sure where you are getting your sold prices. The most recent are selling between $4800-$6000. A couple down at $3500, but I would consider those as outliers.
I filter for North America only.
Perhaps try your luck and cap your bidding to $3800 (look for auctions that end far away from a typical payday). You may get lucky if you are disciplined. I feel better buying used gear from the forums here though...

I like to buy here too. However, sometimes I want that MPB (or similar) warranty to make sure there's no underlying issues. Unfortunately, that's why some sell their gear.

I'm surprised Leica Q3s are going for $3400 on Ebay - usually FM prices are lower than eBay - I don't know which Leica Q3 owners are dumping their Q3s for that low - I know I wouldn't go remotely that low today.

There's a current auction going with a high bid of $4600 so not sure $3400 is a realistic price.

Yeah. I'm glad I'm a pretty good photographer..............I messed that math up........ They still aren't getting those higher asking prices but they'e not averaging $3400

The lowest non-scam (0 feedback domestic or overseas origin with recycled listing images) confirmed sold listing is from Kitamura (legit Japanese retailer) for $4,185 but that doesn't factor in tariff or state tax where applicable. After these it should be about $4,800+.

For pricing check, I like to use Map Camera's tax-free price converted to dollars. https://www.mapcamera.com/search?keyword=leica+q3 This is also about in line with the $4,800+ range.

FM market prices usually match or slightly lower than this for most gear (there are 3 listings right now in the $4,800 range). Also never had issue with gear having issues bought here, or in the rare instance there was one, the seller always took care of it immediately.

MPB and KEH are both great, but the best way for this route is if you trade in to make use of their bonus credit.

I just looked again on Ebay to see where I calculated wrong. - I didn't. Taking the last four Q3 sales, eliminating anything sold by 0 feedback and China listings - as both are scams and ridiculously low, the average sold price is $3,660. So, ultimately, I was correct in my math (surprise). The prices sold - not asking - were: $2,440 , $2,912, $3,550 & $3,900, $4,000. These are all sellers with multiple completed sales and not from questionable listings. The two I add at $3,900 & $4,000 have lines through the prices which, I believe, sold for less than asking but I used the listing price of $3,900 & $4,000.

Anything active is irrelevant as they haven't sold. I'll be selling one of my 43s as I want to pick up a Q3 to go with my 43 and Q2. Hopefully I'll pick up a Q3 around the current average sold price.

Those are all 0% positive feedback scam bot accounts. Even the 72% one is most likely a purchased or hacked scam account. I wouldn't recommend purchasing any of those style listings without doing extensive reverse image search and being prepared to dispute.

Those all have sales. Sellers can't help it if buyers are too lazy to post feedback. I didn't count anyone that had fewer than 15 sales and the $2,440 has over 8K.

That one with over 8k has an auction for an M9 up with the following description.
"Don’t forget to check outour website at lodaz.myshopify.comand enjoy 20%off your purchase! We don’t sell on eBay because of their high fees — we’d ratherpass the savings directly to you. This is a limited-timeoffer, so grabit while it lasts!

Alltransactions are done securelythrough our store.Plus, live chatsupport isavailable on the website if you have any questions.

Visitthe store for morepictures and detailed informationabout our products."

Sure seems like a legit seller...

(If you visit their site you'll find more amazing deals like Q2s and Q3s for under half normal price)

These listings look very questionable. Even if they are legit, it’s because the seller has no credible feedback so buyer is taking a big risk. Yes you can get your money back since eBay is pretty good to buyers but still a hassle.

I once bought a Sony aps-c camera on eBay from a zero feedback seller and they sent me a lenspen instead with tracking. Then they told me the camera is coming in a separate package hoping I’d be convinced to wait out the money hold period. I immediately filed a dispute.

I think that sometimes the items shown as sold on eBay are actually scam listings in which someone took the bait. Recently, I have been watching for a particular item and have seen this occur on at least one item that I strongly suspected was not legit.

Also, notice that one the items shown above, items three and four are exactly the same and sold on the same date. That in itself seems hinky to me as it would be very unlikely that the same item would be sold twice on the same day.

In addition to being a good place to check prices, Map Camera is also a terrific seller. I have purchased from them several times over the years and have always been happy with their service. Only once was there a problem with the item and they took it back and refunded my money promptly.
