I was looking for these photos in my digital files today and discovered I'd never scanned them, so I dug out the negs and went at it. The year was 1978 and I was just a few months into my first job as a staff photographer at a local daily. I was assigned to cover a City Council meeting on Halloween night and expected to be bored out of my mind. Then, as the meeting time arrived, our mayor, Paul Soglin, came hobbling into the chamber dressed as a lame duck and the whole room cracked up. He had just recently announced he was not running for re-election, hence the crutches and costume. He actually went through the entire agenda wearing the costume.

I doubt anyone was offended by that move, according to your comment it looks like everyone was just enjoying the moment.
Great shots and such memorable captures, Brent. I really love the texture and grain of the film, it adds so much character. Curious to know what camera you were using back then!

Thanks very much Marcelo. I'm a little surprised that I can actually remember my equipment from that night because I'm one of those people who can walk into the kitchen and think to myself, why did I come out here? That night I was shooting with a Nikon F2as and a Nikkor 180mm/f2.8. I always shot Tri-X in those days and since the chambers weren't all that bright I most likely pushed it to 1600 ISO.

Nice that you recall the equipment used.
Brent, the Nikkor 180mm f/2 is easily one of the sharpest lenses I've ever used. Its image quality is outstanding, razor sharp wide open at f/2, with excellent contrast and beautiful color rendering. It's a true classic in the Nikkor lineup.
