p.1 #1 · Twilight in the Canyon

Not the typical mountain landscape — this canyon and stream were glowing under a single streetlight at twilight. The colors were too wild to pass up, so I leaned into them with a long exposure. I felt the long exposure blended natural and artificial light into something that feels painterly.

This is certainly unique. Can't say I've ever seen an image quite like this. I like it!

Thank you JWRisinger! It kind of presented itself unexpectedly, I was hiking down from a trail and came out at dusk when I noticed the light that streetlight was casting. Even with my naked eye I could see the interesting reflections and play of cool and warm tones. I made my way to the creek level and framed up a couple different compositions and this was my favorite!

Like JWR said - "unique". The reds are striking. It makes one stop and look. I like it, too.
I love those Loxias.

Thank you Doug! I appreciate hearing your feedback. I love the Loxias too. Out of all the Sony lenses I've used, they are my favorite and I love the image quality from them - crisp, contrasty and great colors!

Thank you Bob! Agree with what you said about being there at the right time and place. I like this quote I saw recently, “Well, like a game, you get better and better at being in the right place at the right time, and at making the pictures that are coming out of your consciousness.” — Joel Meyerowitz

I see what you're saying about the streetlight but I actually like it even though I usually don't like man-made objects in nature or landscape scenes. One thing in hindsight that keeps bothering me about the image, is that tree growing out at the top of the cliff edge at left. I could not back up farther to include more of it and I'd lose the foreground and top of cliff if i moved forward. Here's a version where I cloned it out, I think I prefer it gone, what do you think?

Removing it is an improvement, yep. Cloning works better than cropping would have.

Thanks for the feedback, I agree and definitely like it better cloned out. Before there was visual angst going on with it there!
