Today I’m just sharing one image…
I know this spot has been photographed countless times, but I wanted to capture my own version of it. The most well-known image from this location is probably Alex Noriega’s — the one that earned him the International Landscape Photographer of the Year award.
Since then, the place has changed a bit. The trees have grown taller, and there are more rocks and trails around the lake. My composition is also quite similar to Alex’s shot, simply because there isn’t much room for variation: the pines block most views of the lake and the mountain and the only clear opening is, of course, that iconic spot.
Still, sometimes it’s worth revisiting the classics. Even if a place has been photographed a thousand times, the magic remains, especially when the light hits just right.
I've shot from there, but didn't have those perfect conditions that you captured so well.
One of my friends makes fun of me shooting "derivative" locations like this, but your shot shows why that is worth while. Of course just being there and taking in such beauty is reason enough.
That's the great thing about landscape photography - the light and atmospheric conditions can always produce variations, and you did really well in capturing the what was there.
