With retirement comes free time I haven't had in forever. Went looking at current available options to start digitizing my decades of slide and film archives. Didn't like what I saw so I broke out my old dedicated scanner. I didn't figure there was any way I'd get it up and running on my computers. But with some help from the internet on some driver work arounds I was able to get it running again. Even using the the original software that came with it.
Truth be told though, I'm totally relearning the whole process again. It's not been running for at least 12 years, if not longer. One thing I've found is that running multiple passes, up to 16, does seem to allow me to pull more detail out of shadows in CS6. Yep, still running that too!
It seems that Vuescan does still support this scanner so I may give it a try. Wondering if anyone has any experience with using Vuescan with this scanner, realize it's a long shot.
The majority of the important work was done on Velvia and I'm surprisingly getting some decent scans (IMHO) with this old beast.
This scanner's software does not have a good built in dust removal option but that's not really been a problem yet. I always kept my slides clean and protected so for the more part I've been able with any small dust spots that have shown up.
Anyway if any old times have experience with this and have any tips I'd love to hear them. I used this a ton back in the day and made a lot of prints from it's results. But it's been so long and the old brain just doesn't remember what was second nature back them.
Oh and I'm not going to lie. I loved my film days and still have a bunch of my old film gear. But man is digital such a better workflow for me now. Still have at least 1/2 rolls of Velvia in the freezer with no temptation to load it up, !

Glad it is working for you. I had one but never got great results out of it. I was only using the original software that came with it. I've since gone to camera scanning and have not looked back.

I am curious about what results I can get with camera. I have a bellows setup I can attach to either my Canon DSLR's or my Leica SL. Can use my old lightbox as my light source I guess. Trickiest part will probably be getting the camera perfectly aligned to the slide. Seems much more awkward than the scanner but it will let me satisfy that curiosity. If that gives me promising results I could try a more dedicated setup. It should be faster than the scanner once dialed in it seems.
