p.1 #1 · Ancient history: Techart LM-EA7 on Nex-7

A question for those with long memory who may be able to help sort out a problem I am encountering trying to use the original Techart LM-EA7 adapter on a Nex 7 with a little old 12mm Voigtlander lens.

What suprises me most is that the venerable LM-EA7 actually works on the Nex-7, even though if I understand right the Nex-7 has only CD-AF not PDAF phase detect AF. How can that be?

What suprises me less is that it does not work so reliably in low light.

What annoys me a lot is when the adapter is unable to auto focus in low light it prevents me from releasing the shutter, so I do not have the option to opt for manual focus and am unable to take a photo.

Even more annoying, while the adapter in its current configuration is mounted on the Nex-7 the camera setting cannot be changed from autofocus to manual focus, as this option is greyed out on the menu that only shows that AF is enabled, and toggling from AF to MF does not work on the assigned button, even though the same AF/MF is not greyed out and works fine with other lenses.

I have checked out the extensive thread about this adapter on this forum and see that it appears to be possible to change the focus setting of the adapter from autofocus to manual focus via an app. But if I understand right the app is only available for android and cannot be used on my iphone, which is not particulalry helpful.

The camera reports that the current version of the adapter's firmware is ver. 06

Obviously the easiest solution is to use the adapter on a Sony A7RII, which I have and use it with, but I would also like to be able to use it on my smaller and lighter Nex-7... if the bugs mentioned above don't drive me crazy.

Mostly I am happy (anfd suprised) to find out that it is possible to use the LM-EA7 most of the time with the Nex-7.

However I would be even happier if I could find out how to switch the camera from AF to MF when the clunky old adapter gets annoyed with the clunky old Nex-7 and refuses to let me trigger the shutter?
