I do think that the star trails cause loss of available detail (it does not look like lens coma), the brightest milky way core is a bit overexposed, and the deep sky color balance seems a bit too purple. That said, we can't see any of this with our naked eyes, so it is the artist's choice how to capture and process the night sky wide fields. Half of the image is your own experience which sounds amazing.

Thanks, David. I'm contemplating going back in next year with a betteer night lens so I can do a shorter exposure. So much of the color depends on how it's viewed - in print, the sky isn't nearly as purple & MW not as saturated. It's been an interesting/challenging shot to process for print & digital.
