This looks like a useful polarizer for these cameras, but rather expensive, so I was hoping to get some sense of the useability. I typically always use a lens shade and this would not be the case with filter in place. Is the CPL filter multi coated for glare?
For those not familiar with the Mamiya 6/7/7ii, this polarizing filter and adapter allows you to swing the filter up, turn CPL to get desired effect, meter through the filter, flip filter down and take photograph.

Well, I found a topic that has one person interested..me. In that this filter will work with my Mamiya 7 & 7ii as well as my RF645, I think that it is worth a try.. it is a bit on the expensive side, but polarizer use on rangefinders has never been easy.

You're not the only one, but my interest in it for my Mamiya 6 wasn't enough for the cost. I rarely ever use a polarizer, and I've been aware that the Mamiya 6 viewfinder (not sure about Mamiya 7/7ii) is itself polarized so it might not be the best representation of the polarizer effect. In the case when I think I might need to use it, I've instead bought a magnetic circular polarizer that I can remove, handhold over the viewfinder to get the metering and polarizing effect then just place it over the lens in roughly the same orientation.

I think that you view the subject directly through the polarizer and the meter window views through the polarizer, so you establish the exposure value and then rotate the polarizer down in front of the lens. The adapter allows for use on both 67mm and 58mm lenses. The cost benefit ratio is certainly in question.

Right, yeah I get how it works. What I meant is that the viewfinder is already polarized (it looks off when viewed using polarized sunglasses), so the visual effect of the polarization filter might not be representative of what you get since it's the two different polarizers interacting with each other. I believe you can achieve the same effect with a polarizer held by hand in front of the viewfinder assuming that you can attach it to the lens in the same orientation, which is easier if the polarizer is attached to the lens finder mount magnetically.

I purchased a good bit of E100 and will give it a try with the Mamiya 7, but E100 is a bit of a pain with regards to filters.. warming for open shade, UV and now polarizing. Your approach is probably more financially rational than mine. Shooting mirrorless digital makes even more sense.

In the early 2000s I had both M7 and M7 II and every damn lens for the system including that "mountain" 210mm.
There are few filter sizes but all were small enough that I just used step rings up to keep it all at 77mm IIRC. The shorter lenses had useless hood anyways.

I just looked at the auction site. Wow people are asking a quantity of shekels for the adapter/filter combo, that almost seems delusional.
Crazy.. agreed .. I paid, via Eay: $299 + shipping + tax = $350.52 and then I had to pay DHL for import duty and fees of $63.32. Not really worth it. That said, it is a reasonable approach to using polarizing filters.. I never was happy with the remove, set and reattaching a polarizer on rangefinders. On the other hand, The other lesson here is that purchasing anything from outside of the U.S. now comes with a hefty import duty + fees. I doubt that this arrangement will continue on less expensive items, but as my wife points out, I’m always wrong. On the good side, the filter and adapter seem to be in great shape.

I had one of these back in the day and yeah… it works, but mounting that adapter is fiddly as hell. Took me a few tries to get the CPL oriented right without the whole thing wobbling.
Price-wise… yeah, it’s nuts. I paid nearly the same as bwcolor and then got smacked with import fees on top. For what it’s worth, it does make shooting E100 in tricky light easier, but I mostly ended up hand-holding a regular CPL over the viewfinder when I really cared. Less elegant, but cheaper and less heartburn.
Rangefinder polarizers are a niche hobby fun to tinker, but don’t expect miracles.

Currently on a road trip from Texas to Oregon and using mostly Mamiya 7ii. Agree with the fiddly remarks, but is repeatable if the adapter (for smaller diameter lenses) is mounted first followed by the filter.
