p.1 #1 · DJ-Optical launched a 50mm f/1.0 lens for Leica M mount
Another 50mm f/1.0 lens is set to launch by the end of the year, this time from Chinese maker DJ-Optical. It will be a limited edition of 300 silver units, featuring a compact form factor, a fast f/1.0 aperture, and a 62mm filter thread that allows filters and a lens hood to be used together. The optical formula consists of 10 elements in 5 groups, made from high refractive index glass, with an 11-blade diaphragm. An advanced ultra-low reflectivity coating is used for improved flare resistance.
According to DJ-Optical, the lens delivers excellent center sharpness even wide open, with a distinctive bokeh character said to resemble the fan-like shape of ginkgo leaves, giving it a more characterful rendering.

The Leica Rumors site stated they only sell in China so it looks to be well crafted from unobtainium maybe that will change after web site launch. Perhaps Fred can get a copy and put it up against the ms-optics 1.0 that seems to be a size cousin with very different optics.

I could test it against the MS-Optics 50mm f/1.0 ISM, but this Chinese lens looks noticeably larger and heavier, even though both share a 62mm filter thread..
Its optical design is also very different. The MS-Optics uses a 7-element, 5-group Gauss-type layout, which is highly symmetrical. This symmetry helps reduce optical aberrations and gives the lens its distinctive rendering.

I wish they made 301 of them, I wouldn’t mind one.

(Several (maybe all) Chinese producers use 6061 Al, a high end aerospace and MTB material.) Below is the block chart, it's not too dissimilar from the CV 50/1 in overall layout. It will be interesting to discover the glass types and their placement in the lens. An unusual three-element group is used to end the light gathering and prepare the light for the sensor.
The only other 10/5 I know of is Leica's 35/2 APO-Summicron-M.
And Leica's 50/0.95 uses: two aspherical surfaces, five APD elements and (very interestingly) three high refraction elements - very important for ultra fast lenses.
'For glasses with refractive indices higher than ne1.8 it is difficult to obtain enough chemicals with sufficient purity at a reasonable cost. Subsequently such glasses are very expensive.
The glass developed by Leitz for the 50mm f/1 Noctilux is such a glass. It uses a much higher zirconium oxide content, which allows for a refractive index of ne1.9005 and a dispersion value of ny40. These glasses have a very high melting point of 1600° C (2912° F).'

I have been following this lens on Chinese social media since it was first announced as a potential project.
Have one on order and should get one quite early as I'm heading back to China next week and they promised to have one ready for me to take home. I will report back and maybe do a comparison with Leica Noctilux F1 E58 and Canon 50mm F1L.
And Fred if you haven't had one on order, I don't mind loaning the lens for a few weeks once I'm back. PM me if that's something that interests you.
There is some really bad artifacts in these shots- Especially the last shot. Probably happened in post but they should have noticed with how bad that looks.
Also after reading their design ethos, I really like the idea of it. I wish they would have not used the noctilux reference to keep it their own.
My opinion of course but it sounds like another copy not a unique piece like DJ is driving for.

It looks like a rendering trait caused by spherical aberration. In many ways, it reminds me of the Leica 50/1. Here's an article on it. Use your browser's translation feature for english.

Thanks for posting the article- Sounds like an intresting thing to take on!!! Hopefully it makes it into the wild.
Also Fred, I don't think its the lens, sounds like compression really took a hit.
"Unfortunately, the photos were significantly compressed when uploaded to Note, but I hope they convey the unique atmosphere that only F1.0 can create."

Yes, it seems that way. After reading this article, I get the impression that this may not be limited to just 300 copies but will instead be a regular production lens available in black and silver.

The limited edition is only the silver version. They do have the black version as the regular product.
Fun fact, the person behind the designing of this lens is the same person who did the tt 50mm f0.95

Looks like quite an exciting prospect of a lens, I was never drawn to the TTartisan 0.95 nor the various rebranded 50mm 1.1(save the 7Artisans but ended up not liking it that much) but that one looks like it has an identity of rendering.
I’m stoked.

Perhaps he paid close attention to field curvature, since the TTA 50/0.95 is the only ultra-fast 50mm M-mount lens with a neutral field curvature. Most others, including the Leica (f/0.95 and f/1), produce extreme outward curvature.
