It’s called melanism and occurs in a variety of species. I once saw a black (melanistic woodchuck) here in Maine and a dead melanistic red fox in the Everglades. Just learned today that melanism can occur in species beyond mammals.
Everything about that second group is beautiful, of the grey with the sunflower head and yellow jacket.
