p.1 #1 · I handcrafted this Rollei 40mm F3.5 For L39 and M mounts lens
In its appearance, I’ve done my best to preserve the classic proportions and compact character of the Rollei 35 series lenses; in its operation, I’ve introduced a newly designed focusing ring and collapsible mechanism, with a minimum focusing distance of 0.7m. On a Leica camera, it brings back the sense of lightness, portability, and freedom that defined the Rollei experience.
When collapsed, the lens still retains the understated elegance of the Rollei 35. When extended to infinity and paired with the focusing ring, it works seamlessly with the Leica rangefinder patch, letting the tactile precision of mechanical focusing come alive once again.
The charm of the Rollei 35 series lenses lies in their crisp sharpness, gentle color rendering, and compact form. With this modified version, my goal is to preserve those image qualities within the Leica system, while offering photographers a cross-era shooting experience.
This is not just a lens—it is a bridge that unites the compact sharpness of Rollei with the mechanical precision of Leica.
