I have one of these that came as a kit lens with a entry level Nikon film camera I bought back in the mid 90s. It is made about as cheaply as possible, all plastic right down to the mount. It is an 8 element screw drive AF without any focus motor or VR and it rattles when you shake it. However, the IQ from it at f/8 is better than my af-s 24-120 gold rim nikkor by a rather large margin. Mine must must be a bad copy. They can be bought used for about $50 in mint condition. If you have one of these plastic wonders, share some shots taken with it.

These are really nice lenses and I really should use it more. I just tend to think in my head that primes must be better, but the zoom lens is more than sharp enough for me.

N80, that was the model of the film camera I got mine with as a kit. A lot of cameras have come and gone since then but this little lens still hangs around. I sometimes feel a little strange using in on a D850 but, it performs as well as any normal zoom I've used and that includes a 24-70 f/2.8 and a 35-70 f/2.8
