I received mine yesterday and am still trying it out. Too early to make definitive judgements on IQ, but some observations so far.
Physically:
The lighter weight is evident and balances beautifully on the Z8. The zooming is firm and very nice to use. The clickable control ring is great to use, just enough click to get the feel and I like to use it as an aperture ring like the film days. This may change of course. The Polarizer window works very well.
IQ:
A quick few snaps around Sydney and the results are as you would expect - superb. Too early to say whether it is better than V1, but one thing I do know, it is bloody sharp wide open. I think this is where it may have an edge on V1, which was very sharp wide open but this looks like it might even be sharper, but still checking. Again, this is just seat of the pants so far. Bokeh is very nice.
A worthy upgrade if you look at it as a cost difference between selling your old V1 and buying the new or if it is your first 24-70 f2.8.

To add to Lance's initial impressions, the AF is a noticeably faster. I tried several near to far and far to near jumps, and was impressed with how much of a difference there is. I'll add more impressions over the next couple of days, but so far, so good.

Sounds good. I won't get mine until end of the month or early next month as my local store only got in 2 copies of the lens and someone else desparately needed the lens for his trip abroad this month .
