p.1 #1 · The illusive release of Leica Monopan 50 film
Starting this thread to share experiences how to obtain the new Leica Monopan 50 film. My experience is that it is nearly impossible to get currently through commercial channels, but I see people on social networks posting photos taken with it. I suspect Leica handed this film made in smaller quantity to influencers first end of August where it was supposed to be released and available officially. Practically the film is back-ordered in all major photo stores here in the US and unclear when more is to come.
Another feature less talked about is that this 35 mm film comes in differently designed Leica boxes - so far I haven't seen there is given a choice which kind of box to get.
Anyone else have similar experience or other ones?

Leica refused to send me any because I asked if it came pre-scratched.
All kidding aside, has it been determined who makes the film/what the film is?
Most videos I watched to this topic indicate that it's closest match is Adox HR 50 film even there are minor differences. Most I believe - including me - don't care too much about the origin of this film and are more interested to have a few rolls as collector item since I find the Leica cartridge design and paper box quite intriguing how they look. Likely also the reason why this film is so hard to get for regular consumers.

The unspoken concern is that like Adox HR 50, this product will be perpetually in short supply in the U.S. We will see..or not..
Yes. I am afraid that Leica hyped the film but leaves it to most part for known influencers and collectors to whom the film is directly handed over. I don't think the film will over time increase much in value as collector item if only available in short supply, but Leica might simply used it as kind of 100 years gift to known enthusiasts in the Leica environment. In this case the film might never hit store shelves.
I have still a bit of hope since Leica didn't announce this film as limited edition upfront. But It is likely not made in supply for everyone either.

Well it is just another special edition. You get told it exists after all supplies have been preallocated. I'm not sure the price will go up though, as it does for the collector piececs. Certainly not for used rolls. But you never know.

Price is now $10 per roll....
Anyone purchased for this price, or is it just a place holder?
Evidently, this film’s tonality is greatly aided through the careful selection of developer. Recommended Adox developers are not readily available in the U.S.. Any reliable U.S. retailers of Adox developers. Even the usual suspects seem to be without stock.

Still no luck to get my hands on any for these film rolls. They are shown as sold out everywhere. I think lots of dealing is done here hand-to-hand so to speak.

I got 3 rolls of it but that was in the Leica Florence store. It behaves very similarly to Adox HR 50, so I believe the rumors that it's basically repackaged HR 50 / Aviphot 80.

I managed to get a couple of rolls. They were originally just an add-on to a bigger order back in the beginning of October, but they didn't get them in stock until recently. Since they are hard to come by, I might just wear them as earrings

Mine remains illusive. Still back-ordered. I doubt I will ever get it.
