Skipper, yes, damsel fly, absolutly not.:

Body much too short and stout, lacking colour: antennae far too long, thick, jointed. eye, if that is one, should be compound.

A cockroach is a better bet but that is just a guess.

Thank you Harold, I appreciate the correction
I had no idea and put the image into google search. Damsel Fly was the result.

Yes, I tried Google too. It often gets them right, or near enough.

Looks like a "hummingbird moth" (hummingbird hawk moth)Bob!
They are all around my patio here!

There are a few different variants of this species but the same "moth".
Great compositions!

Thanks Dan

This was smaller than the Hummingbird Moths I see in our yard. So many different insects. Here's what AI says.....
Scientists have described about 1 million insect species, but estimates for the total number of insect species range from around 5.5 million to as many as 30 million, meaning the vast majority of insect species have yet to be discovered. These described species make up more than half of all described animals on Earth, highlighting the incredible diversity of insects.

Oh I have no doubt about that analysis Bob!
I was out shooting after 2" of rain fell yesterday! Boy did we need water bad! Everything floral just "popped" in the sun! That includes my grass!
Thanks!
